The Manu National Park is located in the Madre de Dios Region of southeastern Peru. It is part of the Manu Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the most biologically diverse protected areas in the world. The park covers an area of 1,881,018 hectares (7,033 square miles) and is home to a variety of wildlife including jaguars, harpy eagles, and giant river otters.

The Manu National Park is divided into three distinct zones. The first is the Cultural Zone, an area where tourism is allowed and visitors can observe and interact with the local indigenous people. The second is the Reserved Zone, which is strictly protected and where scientific research is permitted. The third is the Intangible Zone, a buffer zone surrounding the Reserved Zone that serves to protect the core area from human disturbance.

The Manu National Park is home to an incredibly diverse array of plants and animals. The park has over 15,000 species of plants, 1,000 species of birds, and 200 species of mammals, including giant anteaters, tapirs, and howler monkeys. In addition to its vast array of wildlife, the park also features a wide variety of habitats, including lowland rainforest, montane cloud forest, and high-altitude grasslands.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Paradise Lodge

Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco. After that, we’ll take a drive to Ninamarca town to see the well-known Lupacas burial towers, also known as chullpas. After that, we’ll take a car to Paucartambo town, a charming Andean community renowned for its colonial temple. Lunch will be served to us in Paucartambo.

We will visit the adjacent Tres Cruces viewpoint after touring Paucartambo. We’ll have awe-inspiring vistas of the Andes mountains from there. We will next make our way down to the Manu cloud woods.

A brief guided tour of these amazing jungles will be provided for you. Then, a member of our staff will take you to your Paradise Lodge accommodation. You will have dinner and spend the rest of the night there.

Day 2Paradise Lodge - Madre de Dios River - Hummingbird Lodge

In the morning, we’ll get up early to enjoy a sumptuous Amazonian breakfast. We will next travel to Atalaya Port. We will make a halt at a viewpoint to take in the grandeur of the surrounding rainforests before we get to the dock.

We will board a motorboat at Atalaya Port to tour the Madre de Dios River. The reserve’s most recognizable animal species can be seen along the way. Along with diverse bird and butterfly species, you’ll also encounter capybaras and macaws.

Around 5:00 pm, we will arrive at Hummingbird Lodge. Then one of our staff members will provide you access to a room. You will go on a supervised nighttime hike around the lodge following dinner.

Day 3Hummingbird Lodge - Manu River - Casa Matsiguenka

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will depart from Hummingbird Lodge. We shall examine the Manu river’s waters after crossing the Limonal checkpoint. On the banks of the river, you can see creatures like white and black caimans. If we’re fortunate, we could catch a glimpse of a jaguar sipping water from the river.

We will next arrive at Casa Matsiguenka, a jungle lodge run by the Matsiguenka people. We will visit the Cocha Otorongo, a gorgeous lake home to countless birds and enormous otters, after lunch.

We’ll then head back to the lodge where you’ll have dinner. You will go on another night hike through the neighborhood rainforests after dinner.

Day 4Casa Matsiguenka - Cocha Salvador - Casa Matsiguenka

We will travel to the Cocha Salvador, an oxbow lake situated in the Manu, after breakfast. The rest of the day will be spent there. The opportunity to practice canoeing and wildlife spotting will be provided. We’ll head back to our lodge for dinner and the rest of the night after lunch.

Day 5Casa Matsiguenka - Jungle Lodge

After breakfast, we will depart from our inn. After there, we’ll travel down the Madre de Dios River. Before reaching our Jungle Lodge, we will navigate for almost five hours. On the banks of the river, you can see creatures like capybaras, enormous otters, and caimans while traveling.

Once you arrive at our lodge, our staff will help you settle in to your accommodation. After dinner, you will take a midnight hike of the nearby woodlands.

Day 6Jungle Lodge - Cusco

We are going to eat a delectable Amazonian breakfast. We will then depart from the inn and set off towards Atalaya Port. You will then board our private vehicle to take you back to Cusco. Around 5:00 o’clock is when you should arrive in Cusco.
